Water Quality Update for Friday October 3rd, 2025

The Lake This Week

Average clarity and temp dropped slightly this week – the lake level continued to drop – and HAB reports came in throughout the week. The drought has continued and we now have a burn ban in effect (read more below). Fall is most definitely here with cool – even chilly! – mornings and more and more color in the trees around the lake – making for some beautiful scenery for a hike or a paddle. Peak fall color will be here before we know it.

This is our last weekly update for the season – and we will now resume our monthly email updates. We hope you have found our weekly messages informative and helpful this season. If you have an idea for a topic you would like us to cover – please just reach out!

The Lake This Week

Well Fall officially arrived to start the week and we have finally gotten some much needed rain at the end of this week – however the lake level continues to be very low. The average surface temp and clarity haven’t changed significantly from last week.

Water Quality Update for Friday September 19th, 2025

The Lake This Week

While it sure was a beautiful week with sunny weather – unfortunately that same sunny weather was ideal for HAB formation – and we had a number of HABs reported this week. The average lake temperature and clarity didn’t change much this week – both slightly decreasing – and the lake level continued to go down as the abnormally dry conditions continued. Many members have had to take their boats out early due to the low water levels before their boats got stuck in their hoists. (If you missed the explanation about lake level two weeks ago – you can find it here.)

Water Quality Update for Friday, September 12th 2025

The Lake This Week

As the nights continue to cool off – the lake’s average water temperature keeps going down – pushing the thermocline deeper (more about this below). Average water clarity improved this week again which is nice to see however with this warm, sunny weather and no rain we had two small, localized bloom reports this week on the east side of the lake- bringing our total number of reports for the season to six.

Water Quality Update for Friday, September 5th 2025

The Lake This Week

We hope you had a lovely Labor Day Holiday at the beginning of the week. The mornings are getting cooler, the leaves are starting to change color, pumpkins and mums are popping up at the farm stands, and the kids are back in school – Fall is clearly on its way!

The lake’s average water temperature stayed the same this week while the water level continued to go down. Average water clarity improved by about 3 ft this week which is nice to see. We had one small, localized bloom reported last weekend on the east side of the lake bringing our total number of reports for the season to four – but other than that it has been quiet. We had some more rain this week but the water level remains low – more about that below.

Water Quality Update for Friday, Aug 29th 2025

The Lake This Week

Things have definitely cooled off this week! It’s been unseasonably chilly, with lots of wind and some rain in the second half of the week. The average lake surface temperature has dropped since last week as you would expect, while clarity has stayed about the same. We have received reports of increased foam build up along the shoreline on the east side of the lake from all this wind.

Even with nearly 2 inches of rain now at the end of the month, the lake level is still low – it just hasn’t been enough to make a real difference. On the bright side, the weather hasn’t been great for HABs, and once again we’ve had no reported blooms this week.

Water Quality Update for Friday, Aug 22nd 2025

The Lake This Week

It started off hot going into the week but cooled down drastically mid-week – feeling almost fall like all of a sudden. We finally got some much needed rain (insert loud cheers here). And now – its already warming right back up again. Despite the weather feeling a bit like a roller coaster – it was a pretty calm week lake-wise. No HABs were reported. Lake surface temp is slightly down and clarity is up.

Friday, August 15th Water Quality Update

The Lake This Week

Well it sure was hot and dry this week. Even the trees are starting to take notice – leaves are already starting to turn yellow on some that are more stressed. If you are a gardener I bet you are ready for some rain. Despite the warm temperatures – we only had one small, localized bloom reported on Tuesday in the Crystal Beach area. Overall, in lake conditions are very similar to last week in terms of lake temp and clarity. The wild fire haze has cleared up some and we have finally had some blue sky – although it is still not totally clear out there.

August 8th Water Quality Report

The Lake This Week

The average surface temperature is slightly down this week from 80 degrees F. last week to 78 degrees F this week due to the cool nights over the weekend and into the start of the week and the haze from the wildfires in Canada partially blocking the sun all week.

Water clarity has decreased as well – with our average secchi reading at 2.9 meters down from 4.3 meters last week. Lake monitoring still shows that it is mainly green algae and diatoms present in the water though -neither of which are associated with HABs. There are some Microsystis cyanobacteria present as well – the HABs causing blue-green algae – but not in great numbers – and we had no bloom reports this week.

August 1st Water Quality Report

The Lake This Week

The week started off HOT! with a cold front bringing rain in on Thursday to cool things off. Unfortunately Monday afternoon brought our first HAB (cyanobacterial Harmful algal bloom or C-HAB) reports of the season. Both were located in the north end and were small and localized, with streaking on the surface and some dots throughout the water column. With the hot temperatures – conditions were ideal for more blooms – and we were on the lookout – but so far we have just had the two reports

All in all – It was a gorgeous week to be out enjoying the lake!
