Make a difference. Volunteer with CLWA.

The work of the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association is driven by thousands of volunteer hours each year. We cannot succeed in our mission to preserve and protect Canandaigua Lake without the support of dedicated and talented volunteers like yourself.

Check out the current volunteer opportunities listed below, and consider getting more involved with us!

HELP WANTED!

HABs Hunters Needed for 2021 Season

Are you looking to get more involved with helping Canandaigua Lake?

CLWA is currently seeking volunteers for the 2021 summer season to help monitor the shoreline for harmful algae blooms (HABs). Having more “eyes on the lake” helps us assess overall lake conditions, and allows us to communicate with the watershed community about lake wide conditions during the summer months. All the information collected also goes towards long-term research efforts on the lake.

Interested? Help us keep a careful watch over Canandaigua Lake this summer by becoming a HABs Hunter!

Aquatic Plant Monitors Needed!

Aquatic invasive species not only threaten our native lake ecosystems, but have far reaching impacts on our environment, the economy, and the recreational enjoyment of our lakes.

The Finger Lakes PRISM has established a program to help monitor for aquatic plants in an effort to aid in early detection of new aquatic invaders. Volunteers perform a bi-weekly rake toss off the end of a dock or from a boat, and report their findings in an easy-to-use online survey through PRISM. All training and materials are provided.

Help keep an eye out on Canandaigua Lake by becoming a Macrophyte Survey Program participant in 2021!  Questions? Email Megan Harris (mharris@hws.edu) for more information.
