Committees: Citizen Science

Joel Pasternack joined the CLWA board in 2019. For 50 years Joel has enjoyed recreation on Canandaigua Lake including boating in summer and walking on lake ice in winter. He sees lake beauty in all seasons but recognizes changes in water quality. Joel is a professor of emergency medicine at the University of Rochester and has a master’s degree in mathematical physics and a PhD in mathematics. He is active in citizen science taking a leadership role for the Temperature at Depth project. His goal is to work collaboratively with local and regional scientists to use data to understand the changing chemistry and biology of the lake and use that understanding to educate policy makers and citizens.
