Canandaigua Lake Watershed Council
Lead agency overseeing the protection of the Canandaigua Lake watershed. Consists of publicly elected representatives from each of the fourteen watershed and water purveying municipalities. Goal is to maintain and enhance high water quality through education, research, restoration and, if necessary, regulation. Site provides access to the Watershed Management Plan, monitoring programs, publications, lake level reports, and much more.
Finger Lakes Regional Watershed Alliance
FLRWA brings together the members, expertise and desires of the Finger Lakes watershed associations to preserve and protect their watersheds with a collective regional voice; to join forces to advocate for mutually beneficial regional changes, backed by sound research; and to promote collective actions that represent the desires of the entire Finger Lakes region.
The Finger Lakes Institute
Finger Lakes Institute (FLI) is dedicated to the promotion of environmental research and education about the Finger Lakes and surrounding environments.
Finger Lakes – Lake Ontario Watershed Protection Alliance(FLLOWPA)
Coalition of all 25 counties in New York State’s Lake Ontario drainage basin. Fosters coordinated watershed management programs across the Lake Ontario Basin based on local needs.
Ontario County Docking and Mooring Law
Focuses on regulating the uses and number of facilities allowed per lineal foot of lakeshore of a parcel.
Land Preservation
Finger Lakes Land Trust Since 1989 has worked to protect the natural integrity of the Finger Lakes Region. Protected thousands of acres of wetlands, streams, meadows, forests, farmlands and shrublands throughout the region. Examples: South Hill (Middlesex), Grimes Glen (Naples), and the new South Bristol Overlook.
The Nature Conservancy Though global, also works with private landowners to preserve lands through conservation easements. Example: Watershed on Coy Road.

Center for Watershed Protection Non-profit corporation that provides local governments, activists, and watershed organizations around the country with the technical tools for protecting some of the nation’s most precious natural resources: our streams, lakes and rivers. Has developed and disseminated a multi-disciplinary strategy to watershed protection that encompasses watershed planning, watershed restoration, stormwater management, watershed research, better site design, education and outreach, and watershed training.
