Education Program at Naples: 3rd, 4th, and 5th Grade
3rd Grade Lesson:
Students will be introduced to what a watershed is and learn about how it functions by viewing a few different models of one. The majority of the lesson is focused on the use of the EnviroScape watershed model in order to demonstrate how storm water runoff carries non-point source pollutants through the watershed to a pond, lake, river, bay, or ocean. Best management practices to prevent this type of pollution is then discussed.
4th Grade Lesson:
This lesson reinforces and expands on elementary science representations of key water cycle dynamics. It includes relevant terminology and a conservation/protection message about one of Earth’s most valuable and finite resources.
5th Grade Lesson:
Students will learn about the different ways humans use the land and the potential impacts these uses can have on water quality.
