Co-hosted by the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association\, the Finger Lakes Land Trust\, and the Canandaigua Lake Watershed Council\, this event brings together regional experts in the field to share scientific insights. \nThe Watershed Forum aims to provide insights into the current state of Canandaigua Lake and the proactive measures required to protect this cherished natural resource. Distinguished experts in the field\, including Dr. Lisa Cleckner from the Finger Lakes Institute (FLI)\, Dr. Greg Boyer from SUNY Environmental Science and Forestry (ESF)\, Anthony Prestigiacomo from the NYS DEC\, and Andy Zepp from the Finger Lakes Land Trust\, will deliver presentations on the water quality of Canandaigua Lake and ongoing conservation efforts. \nThe forum will include a panel discussion featuring Watershed Council Manager Kevin Olvany\, allowing attendees to engage directly with experts\, ask questions\, and contribute to the conversation on lake conservation. \nLearn how education fuels action and how your participation can drive protection. Explore ongoing research efforts and citizen science initiatives by CLWA\, and be empowered to make a difference. \nPresentations:\nTony Prestigiacomo\nTitle: “Insights on Cyanobacteria in Canandaigua Lake”\nTony Prestigiacomo\, MS\, is a Research Scientist 3 at the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. He supervises the Finger Lakes Watershed Hub\, focusing on water quality issues and harmful algal blooms in Central and Western NY. \nGregory Boyer\, Ph.D.\nTitle: “Algal Toxins and Water Quality”\nDr. Gregory Boyer is Professor Emeritus of Biochemistry at SUNY-ESF\, specializing in marine and freshwater algae toxins. He directs the Great Lakes Research Consortium and collaborates with state/federal agencies on harmful algal bloom (HAB) issues. \nAndrew Zepp\nTitle: “Conservation Efforts for Water Quality in the Finger Lakes”\nAndrew Zepp is the President of Finger Lakes Land Trust (FLLT)\, overseeing conservation efforts in the region. He will discuss land conservation’s role in preserving water quality and restoring natural habitats. \nLisa B. Cleckner\nTitle: “Advancing Finger Lakes Water Quality Through Data”\nLisa B. Cleckner is the Director of the Finger Lakes Institute (FLI) at Hobart and William Smith Colleges. DESCRIPTION:Location: The Woods\, 6021 State Route 21\, Naples\, NY 14512 \nTime: 6:30-7:30 PM \nCost: $30 (includes one 55 gallon rain barrel to take home) \nJoin us for a Rain Barrel Workshop where we will learn about the importance of managing stormwater and the benefits of using rain barrels at your home. Installing a rain barrel is an easy way to protect our environment and save money. A rain barrel collects & stores rainwater from your roof that would otherwise be lost to runoff & diverted to storm drains or streams. The water from your barrel can be used for watering gardens & lawns\, cleaning outdoor furniture\, & the list goes on. \nAlaina from OCSWCD will present on the importance of stormwater management and the issues caused to land and water health from pollutants carried by stormwater into our waterways and drinking water sources. Then she will show participants how to put together their very own rain barrel to take home! \nCost is $30 per barrel.
