SUMMARY:NY Climate Smart Communities: Opportunities and Lessons Learned
DESCRIPTION:This online event is part of Lake Friendly Living Awareness Month and is sponsored by Owasco Lake Watershed Management Council. \nBroadly\, long-term watershed protection requires implementing measures that help reduce the impacts of climate change. Climate change has brought more flooding and increased surface water temperatures\, which has prolonged lake stratification\, driving HABs. It’s important that we attempt to mitigate adverse effects at the local level. This is a massive undertaking\, and we greatly appreciate the support of the Central NY Regional Planning and Development Board (CNYRPDB) staff towards advancing climate-smart communities’ programming. \nAmanda Mazzoni: \nAmanda Mazzoni\, Principal Planner for the Central NY Regional Planning and Development Board\, assists local communities with advancing municipalities’ registrations and certifications with the NY Climate Smart Communities program. Ms. Mazzoni will present the merits of the program\, steps for those looking to get registered\, and action items for those registered to make advancements towards program accreditation. \nEd Wagner: \nThe Town of Owasco is the first within Cayuga County to achieve bronze level certification as a Climate Smart Community. Supervisor for the Town of Owasco\, Ed Wagner\, will share the Town’s experience with the program\, describe the Climate Smart actions the Town has advanced\, and provide recommendations for those interested in advancing this program for their municipality. \nRegister for this online event at the link below: \nhttps://us02web.zoom.us/webinar/register/WN_ehPy-OAdQDGlWy2Be9DRnA
