Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association
Canandaigua Lake . . . the very name conjures images of amazing sunrises, glorious sunsets, abundant wildlife, dancing reflections, and ever-fascinating displays of nature.
Canandaigua Lake, which means "chosen spot," was so named by its first inhabitants, Native Americans, who passed this pristine resource on to us . . . untouched. Now it's our turn to ensure that this magnificent, precious, and irreplaceable natural resource is preserved and protected for future generations.
Canandaigua Lake Watershed Association, Inc. is a not-for-profit, volunteer group of citizens and community members dedicated to ensuring the environmental and economic vitality of Canandaigua Lake and its watershed.
With roots going back more than fifty years, CLWA was officially formed January 1, 2010, when the former Canandaigua Lake Association, Inc. and Canandaigua Lake Watershed Alliance, Inc. merged.
Why do we need to advocate for the lake?
Never has Canandaigua Lake faced as many threats as it does today: development challenges, climate change, invasive species, the need for more public access. One by one, You can make a difference. Together, we can ensure that our grandchildren and future generations can enjoy the treasure as we have.
As captured by our new logo, we are committed to help:
- Protect Canandaigua Lake and its watershed, its natural resources, and the surrounding land and property
- Preserve local Native American folklore and pioneer history
- Promote Canandaigua Lake and the surrounding region in responsible, lake-friendly ways
Please join us as we continue our efforts to protect our cherished lake.
